The role of binders in mixture cracking resistance measured by ideal-CT test

2021
Abstract The Indirect Tensile Asphalt Cracking Test (IDEAL-CT) is a newly developed test method that has high potential of reliably evaluating fatigue cracking of asphalt mixtures. In this study two binder fatigue testes, Linear Amplitude Sweep (LAS) and Binder Yield Energy Test (BYET), were used to measure the performance of asphalt binders. Advanced analyses on LAS/BYET data were employed to determine binder fatigue parameters that could explain binder’s role in mixture cracking resistance. The results indicate that the role of binders in mixture behavior in the IDEAL-CT tests can be successfully defined using the outputs from the LAS and BYET tests.
