THE CREATION OF NEW VALUES IN TRANSPORTATION AND DAILY LIFE - CREATION OF VALUE, AMENITY, AND SPACE

The paper describes the establishment and purpose of JR East Frontier Service Research Laboratory. This laboratory's current activities are to examine ideal services for the 21st century and to create new values in transportation and daily life. Some examples of these services, in addition to tour and bus services, are credit cards, gift certificates, shopping centers and restaurants. JR East also operates sport and leisure businesses, hotels, sales of houses, and development of office complexes. Thus, the mission of the Frontier Service Research Laboratory is to develop services that will allow effective liaison between railroad transportation and daily life oriented services.
