Widely tunable optoelectronic oscillator using phase modulation to intensity modulation conversion and a heterogeneous multicore fiber

2017
We propose a novel structure of optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) based on a microwave photonics filter (MPF), and this MPF is implemented by phase modulation to intensity modulation conversion and a heterogeneous multicore fiber. In our scheme, the periodicity of the generated finite impulse response (FIR) filter by using the multicore fiber is broken by the phase modulation to intensity modulation conversion, leading to a larger tunable range up to 30 GHz. The simulation results show that phase noise performance of −149 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz can be achieved by using the proposed OEO.
