Research on the Use of Rheological Systems to Decrease the Vertical Oscillations Perceived by the Driver

2020
The Rheological systems prove good damping capabilities in different application areas. The reduction of vertical oscillations generated by rugged roads at the human body through the use of these systems is an important solution in the automotive industry. The main objectives of the research presuppose the determination of the damping forces and energies specific to the operation of the rheological system while driving the vehicle on rough roads. The attempts consist to apply different working frequencies and several supply currents to the shock absorber. The solution adopted for research uses the magnetoreological damper. The performance of the shock absorber is evaluated by cyclical laboratory tests and compared to those observed in the real environment. The expected results are related to the shock absorber’s ability to reduce vertical oscillations and shocks at the driver’s seat while driving on rugged roads. It is also being watched to operate in accordance with the international standards: ISO 2631-1, VDI 2057, BS 6841. Rheological systems are able to reduce shocks and vertical accelerations when applying to different source energy. In the case of motor vehicles, their use helps to increase the level of comfort of people, especially when traveling on roads with pronounced unevenness.
