Rural development and the process of urbanization in the third world

1983
The effect of rural development on the process of urbanization in developing countries is examined through a review of the literature. The authors suggest that rural development can give rise to three types of urbanization: diffuse urbanization without a concentration of the population in towns embryonic or deviant urbanization and urbanization that leads to both a concentration of population in towns and a spread of elements of the urban way of life into rural areas.
