Leadership Effectiveness and Organizational Performance: Exploring Gaps in the Existing Literature

This study aims at investigating the gaps in the existing literature in relationship between leadership effectiveness and organizational performance. Based primarily on an in-depth review of substantial literature, the study reveals that existing research concerning leadership effectiveness is mostly ethnocentric in nature as majority of these studies have been conducted in western countries such as America, United Kingdom, France and Germany and replicated in other countries without considering the particular culture, situation and context. These studies have overlooked contextual realities and cultural effects in the relationship between leadership effectiveness and organizational performance. Similarly, limited aspects have been considered in the measurement of leadership effectiveness and organizational performance in existing research. Due to this, there is lack of clarity in understanding the relationship between leadership effectiveness and organizational performance. It argues that the relationship between leadership and organizational performance is not simple one that can be measured through simple linear relationship. There is a complex relationship having different aspects and dimensions that make it difficult to get specific conclusions regarding leadership effectiveness and organizational performance.
