A Hybrid PAPR Reduction Technique Using FFT/IFFT Based Tone Reservation and SLM with No Side Information

2011
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing hasbeen the preferred candidate for broadband wirelesscommunications over the years. However, it suffers from theproblem of high Peak-to-Average Power Ratios (PAPR) whichcauses inefficient use of the High Power Amplifier. In thispaper, we propose a hybrid PAPR reduction technique basedon FFT/IFFT tone reservation and the Selected MappingTechnique (SLM) with no side information. In this techniquewe shall use fewer reserve tones (about 2% of the bandwidth)than the original FFT/IFFT based tone reservation techniqueand achieve an outstanding PAPR reduction of about 6dB, atthe cost of complexity in the SLM technique.
