Laser treatment system of presbyopia.

1999
An ophthalmic surgery system (14, 20) for performing selective ablation of an exposed corneal surface (200) of an eye (30) to create a desired aspheric shape (210, 215) for correcting presbyopia on the anterior optical surface a healed cornea, the system comprising: (i) means (29) for directing a laser beam along a path; and (ii) means (73) for profiling said beam to produce a profiled beam with a center; characterized by (iii) means (51) for laterally displacing the center of the profile in a predetermined extent (D) with respect to an optical axis (52) beam thus effecting a corresponding lateral displacement of the beam center (55) on the corneal surface (200) of the eye (30); and (iv) a computer (10, 21) which is installed to control said lateral displacement means (51) according to the table of laser treatment (14) to move said profiled beam center over an area of the corneal surface (200) of the eye (30), wherein said treatment table laser defines a plurality of optical treatment zones (231, 236, 241) on the corneal surface (200) wherein the exposed surface of the cornea must be separated ablated, the computer is adjusted for adjusting the optical treatment zones in accordance with an input dimension of the pupil of said eye (30), and adjusted to control a laser (28) to emit laser beam pulses to effect said ablation said area so as to form an ablated (211) in the eye (30) having an appropriate shape to provide said desired aspheric shape (210, 215) optical zone.
