A 1 V Double-Balanced Mixer for 2.4-2.5 GHz ISM Band Applications

2021
A double-balanced inductor-less passive mixer is presented in this paper. The architecture is designed using a switching stage, which consists of two passive single balanced mixers, followed by a common source amplifier. The proposed architecture is designed and implemented at the transistor level in 180 nm CMOS technology at a reduced supply voltage of 1 V. The layout occupies an area of 0.052 mm2. The post-layout design, along with its Monte-Carlo and two-tone test analyses verify the robustness of the design. The designed mixer operates in the ISM band from 2.4–2.5 GHz, which is suitable for applications such as Bluetooth, WiFi, and ZigBee. The design achieves a conversion gain of 16.15 dB with a power consumption of 0.222 mW. The proposed architecture also features an IIP3 of 1.58 dBm and a 1 dB compression Point of −8.54 dBm.
