Investigaciones preliminares con el concentrado de cromita obtenido de las colas de Nicaro.

A scheme is being studied at CIS (Siderurgical Researching Center) to concentrate chromospinel contained in the solid remanants (tailing) at Nicaro nickel factory. The result of this procedure has yielded a concentration from 40,0 to 43,0% of Cr2O3 . It has been tested, preliminarily, for different uses: in the conformation of briquettes to obtain ferrochrome from scrap iron, as a refractory earth fill to be used in molds in steel melting, and at ACINOX Tunas as a partial substitute to zirconium sand to close the rolling doors in the melting pans. The main objective of our work is to show the characteristics of this concentrate which enhance and warrant the different uses above mentioned, and from them, to ponder about the possibilities of it to be applied, so that, to show it as a possible raw material source in the production of chemicals with a chromium basis.
