POSITIVE DISPLACEMENT PUMPS FOR EMERGENCY TRANSFER OF HIGH-VISCOSITY CARGOES

1978
This article deals with the use of lightweight, easily handled pumping systems based upon the positive-displacement pump that can provide the solution to salvage problems which crop up when tankships loaded with oil or liquid petrochemicals run aground or sink. The positive-displacement pump is more energy efficient at high viscosity. Used in conjunction with present emergency transfer systems that are effective with low-viscosity liquids, this type of pump can reduce the environmental and financial impacts of tanker casualties.
