Damping Interarea Oscillations Using PID Power System Stabilizer With Grey Wolf Algorithm and Particle Swarm Algorithm

2019
One of the biggest issues that face power systems is interarea oscillations, as power system is a dynamic system that is subjected to disturbances. In order to get a reliable sustainable performance from a power system, a robust power system stabilizer must be available in the system to damp low frequency oscillations. It has been a challenge to introduce different designs of power system stabilizer (PSS) to get the most reliable performance and the best damping of these low frequency oscillations. The aim of this paper is to study low-frequency oscillations and how to damp it using PID controller. In this paper two different algorithms will be used with (PID) power system stabilizer, in a four machine two area system. In an approach to tune (PID) power system stabilizer using Grey Wolf algorithm (GWO) and Particle Swarm algorithm (PSO), trying to get the best parameters and more reliable technique. The results were compared between the two algorithms. The comparison shows the effectiveness of each technique on the system.
