POTENTIAL FOR LIDAR MEASUREMENTS OF TEMPERATURE FROM SPACE

Potential for lidar measurements of temperature from space by the method of elastic molecular light scattering is investigated. Errors of lidar temperature measurements are calculated. A solid-state Nd: YAG laser generating the 3 rd and 4 th harmonics with wavelengths of 353 and 266 nm was used as a transmitter. Results of analysis demonstrate high efficiency of sensing in the UV range at a wavelength of 353 nm.
