Influence of 13-CIS-Retinoic Acid on NK-Cell Activity and Macrophageal Cytotoxicity from Mice with Transplanted B16 Melanoma

ABSTRACTThe effects of Retinoids—13-cis-retinoic acid and Acitretin in vivo on the NK-cell activity of spleen cells and cytotoxicity of macrophages from hybrid mice BDFl with transplanted B16 melanoma are investigated. NK activity is examinated by the Johnson—Pope method and is calculated as the percentage of target cells lysis. The macrophage cytotoxicity was studied using the method of Yang et al. The results of our study show that the application of 13-cisretinoic acid and Acitretin result in the increase of NK-cell activity in hybrid mice BDF1 with transplanted B16 melanoma in comparison with non treated tumour bearing mice. The effect of Acitretin in the doses and schemes used is more considerable than the effect of 13-cis-retinoic acid. The treatment with 13-cis-retinoic acid and Acitretin on hybrid mice BDFl with transplanted B16 melanoma does not result in any significant increase of the tumouricidal activity of peritoneal microphages.
