A REVIEW ON LIMESTONE CALCINED CLAY CEMENT (LC3) CONCRETE

2020
For a long time, to decrease the effect of cement production and CO2 emission lot of researches are carrying out on alternative binders. Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs) that are collected mostly from industries as waste products (slag and fly ash) which have the energy to decrease the content of cement’s clinker. The main drawback of high replacement levels of these materials is the effect on early strength and also increased setting time, minor improvement of increase in later age strength. To counteract this issue, a blend of calcined clay and limestone which is ternary blended mix will be a predominant alternate solution. In this paper, the behaviour of limestone calcined clay cement on various properties such as mechanical, durability properties are reviewed and the performances of LC3 concrete in structural applications are discussed. This paper broadly describes the problems of LC3 concrete and their benefits compared with ordinary Portland cement. The result may conclude that LC3 has high resistance on alkali-silica reaction, high electrical resistivity, high capillary water absorption, high durable than OPC. However, it has lower carbonation resistance, less workability and higher shrinkage when compared to OPC.
