Thermalandfluid dynamical aspects inthedesign ofanAxial FluxPermanent MagnetSynchronous Machine withSoftMagnetic CompoundStator

2006
The paperinvestigates thethermal behaviour of Synchronous AxialFluxPermanentMagnetMachines. Computation ofthermalfield isperformed viaa coupled thermal andfluid dynamical modelbasedonFinite Element Analysis. Different two-dimensional approaches areusedand thencompared onthebasis ofexperimental tests performed on alaboratory testrig. TheAxial Fluxmachine employed fortests and simulations has a SoftMagneticCompoundcore. Temperature field ofthesurface ofbackironandwindings are experimentally assessed andtheimplementation oftheFEM modelispresented. Keywords - Electrical machines, Axialfluxmachines, Finite Elements Analysis, FEM,Thermalanalysis.
