Raman and infrared spectra of methylcadmium halides and related compounds

Raman and i.r. spectra are reported for dimethylcadmium, cadmium halides, and mixtures in tetrahydrofuran solution. From the cadmium–methyl and cadmium–halogen stretching frequencies it is concluded that the Schlenk equilibria lie predominantly on the side of monomeric CH3CdX species. For the equilibrium Me2Cd + Cdl2⇆ 2MeCdl, K is 110.
