Contingency airfield pavement evaluations

Concrete is the primary construction material for structures and airfield pavements for the United States Air Force. It is used extensively for runways and taxiways around the world. Concrete pavements are continuously evaluated and repaired to meet the high-use impacts of today's aircraft. But why the need for continus structural pavement evaluations? When airfield pavement fails, it has disastrous results.
