Study on a Method of Corrosion Acoustic Emission Location for the Tank Floor

Storage tank is one of the most important equipment for oil and gas storage and transportation. With the increase of the running time, a lot of harmful substances are deposited on the bottom of the tank. When acoustic emission is used to monitor corrosion defects on the floor of storage tank, there are many interfering factors, which make it difficult to locate corrosion defects. In order to accurately locate the acoustic emission signals source in the damaged part of tank floor, a positioning method is proposed. This method analyzes the propagation mode of the source signals from the corrosion defect, and then establishes an appropriate three-dimensional cylindrical coordinate system based on the relative position of the sensor and the corrosion space on the geometric relation between them in the coordinate system, the relation between the position of the sound source and the time difference of the sound signals is deduced. And to simplify the calculation, after the position of the coordinate system is determined, the Angle between the sensors is changed to make its relative position a special Angle, which makes the calculation faster. Before the monitoring, the layout of acoustic emission sensors in the corrosion monitoring of tank floor was determined to increase the positioning accuracy. It provides some guidance for monitoring tank floor corrosion location by acoustic emission.
