Transmission electron microscopy standards for asbestos

Abstract Electron micrographs and selected area electron diffraction patterns of all six recognized asbestos minerals (chrysotile, amosite, anthopyllite, crocidolite, tremolite and actinolite) are shown. These were all produced with the same parameters on one electron microscope and using the same sample preparative techniques. X-ray crystallographic and chemical data for the six asbestos minerals from various sources in the literature are also given. It is hoped that all the data may prove useful as a comparison to other researchers involved in identifying submicroscopic asbestos fibres.
