Dumbbell-Shaped Defected Ground Structure Resonator Filter for High-Efficiency Microwave Power Amplifiers

A compact circuit based on a microstrip line with dumbbell-shaped defected ground structures (DGS) as load network of high-efficiency power amplifiers (PA) of classes E, F, F-1, E/F is considered. A strategy for the circuit topology optimization to achieve conditions of the high-efficiency PA load network is proposed. The principle possibility of creating high-efficiency PA for microwave application with simple and compact configuration is shown. Simulation indicates a potential possibility to achieve power added efficiency (PAE) of 82.6%.
