Anodic oxidation of limonene in Br− containing methanolic solutions

Abstract Solutions of limonene and tetraethylammonium bromide in methanol were electrochemically oxidized at Pt anodes. Three main products were obtained, namely, 6-methoxylimonene ( 1 ), 1-methoxy-2-bromomenth-8-ene ( 2 ) and 1,8-dimethoxy-2,9-dibromo- p -menthane ( 3 ). Reaction routes leading to these compounds are proposed.
