Between Asylum and Expulsion, the Woman Who Could No Longer Stand Up

2016
We are increasingly faced with cases of expulsion of asylum seekers due to the terms of the Dublin Regulation. The authorities, and sometimes the public, seem to think that these expulsions should not cause a problem. We have seen that they can cause the repetition of a trauma and bring about symptoms of severe psychiatric disorders in people who in most cases have no psychiatric antecedents. Through a clinical case history in the context of an emergency and an injunction to act, we aim to show the importance of preserving a psychopathological reflection and of avoiding certain countertransferential pitfalls. These questions, although mostly clinical, are also ethical and are examined through the teamwork of a crisis center in Geneva.
