At transverse level,probation has such functions as specific mechanistic determent,non virtual deprivation,and socialized correction;it helps victims to get compensations quickly,and provides means for forgiveness;it also protects and re-unites the community.At longitudinal level,probation maintains punishment at the criminal law making stage,restores orders at the criminal justice,and reduces cost at the enforcement stage.
