Strength and Stiffness of Segmented Compression Part Beam Made of Sliced Laminated Bamboo Due to Transverse Load on Shear Failure Mode

2020
Various studies on sliced laminated bamboo have been carried out and has expected to be applied as a building material. On the other handed the process of making sliced laminated bamboo produce short pieces of waste sliced bamboo that cannot be used for structural elements of a building. This research uses the waste as material for laminated bamboo beam in the form of segmental pieces placed on the compressed part. The purpose of this study was to find the effect of the length of the segmental pieces on the mechanical properties of the beam in support the transverse load on the shear failure model. To meet this goal three beam variations are made, namely a beam with length of a segmental was quarter span, half span, and a beam no segmental piece as a control beam. Experiments carried out on four-point bending test. The results showed that there were no differences in flexure strength and modulus of elasticity between segmental beam on compressed part and beams no segmental on compressed part. It was also concluded that the service load of the beam for the deflection limit 1/300 time beam span reached 33.79% of the maximum load.
