A Method to Analyze Walking Environments of Historic Conservation Areas Based on PSPL Theory

2015
As walking is a main independent and connected trip mode in historic conservation areas, the improvement of walking environments is beneficial to both the sustainable development of the environment and to people’s health. Based on PSPL theory and walking characteristics of historic conservation areas, this paper puts forward an investigation system to describe the walking environment through pedestrians, their activities and quality of public space. An analysis model using the collected data was established and applied in the Confucius Temple in Nanjing, which makes great contributions to setting a target of improvement, defining the existing deficiencies and potential for improvement.
