An aria from the cantata L’Aurora which Rossini composed in 1815 for the wife of general Kutuzov, at that time living in Italy, is derived from a Russian folk song called Na cto bylo ogorod gorodit’ . The same tune was furtherly re-worked by Rossini for the finale of his Barber of Seville . The author of this article identifies in a patriotic song composed by Danila Kashin in 1814, known as Likuj, Moskva, v Parizhe Ross , the tune which Rossini borrowed for the "Russian anthem" sung by count Libenskof in Il viaggio a Reims…
