Flexible, adaptable and cost-effective seismometer with Linux-based embedded system: R-NON

2011
In this paper, we introduce a new concept design of a Linux-based embedded system for measuring seismic waves. We use a Linux-ready embedded board combined with electronic boards such as an analog-to-digital converter board, GPS, GPRS and a newly designed Common Interface Board (CIB) to create a seismometer in which Linux runs as an operating system. Seismic algorithms, data logging, time synchronization and other programs run as application programs on the Linux. The advantages of this design are reduced core hardware and software development time and cost.
