A reduction method of cogging torque for IPMSM

This paper describes a reduction technique of the cogging torque in an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM). IPMSM usually has the flux barrier for preventing the short circuit of magnetic flux near the magnet. The flux barrier can reduce the cogging torque, and therefore the shape of the flux barrier of IPMSM with concentrated winding is discussed in this study. To analyze the cogging torque for various shapes of flux barrier, the two dimensional finite element method is introduced. As a result, it is found that there exists the optimum shape of flux barrier that can obviously reduce the cogging torque.
