10 GHz Investigation of Sudanese Dust Event Particles Characteristics

2019
For a heavy dust storm that hit Khartoum at March 29,30, 2018, eight samples from pre-determined locations are collected to study the suspended particle characteristics. In this experimental study the samples gathered are investigated to determine size, shape, chemical composition and electrical properties of dust samples. The shape of the prticles is obtained using field emission scanning electron microscope and it is obvious that the dust storm particles have irregular shape. Particle size and distribution are investigated using Nano Tec Laser Particle Sizer and it was found that the mean diameter of samples is equal to 47.08 $\mu m$ and the size distribution is log normal. Chemical composition is carried out with Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer. SiO 2 is the major compound found in the samples. To estimate dust dielectric constant Looyenga model is used. The results are given and they conform with some of published results.
