Advances in modern EEG-BCI signal processing: A review

2021
Abstract With the increasing computing power, it is easier to develop machine learning and signal processing technologies. This led to massive significance in EEG-based Brain-Machine Interfaces that can be applied to a variety of sensing devices that can profit from the hands-free and individual conversion aspect of this field. Though, almost all of the investigation has been at the stage of proof-of-concept rather than at a more practical stage. As a result, there have been few innovations in techniques that enable people with seriously impaired nerve system (humans with Multiple Sclerosis, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, etc.) to navigate spatially in a simulated 2D or 3D environment. Newer technologies and growing trends in the computerization and artificial intelligence present a challenge to the ever-growing large community to introduce this new technology. This article will address the practicalities of the differences in signal processing and the significance of these innovations to the EEG- BMI in concurrent.
