Performance Analysis of Solar Energy Conversion System Using Super-Lift Luo Converter

2020
Solar Energy Conversion Systems (SECS) are trending one among all other renewable energy conversion systems. One of the important shortcoming in SECS, which acts as a barrier for its preference is energy conversion efficiency. This research work presents the performance analysis of SECS with the integration of advanced DC-DC converter namely Super-Lift Luo Converter (SLLC). Traditionally, Boost converter is widely used in SECS for improvement of efficiency. The drawbacks of Boost converter integrated SECS are clearly addressed in this manuscript by considering quality and efficiency of energy conversion. Unlike the Boost converter, the proposed SLLC converts DC output voltage from solar panel in geometric progression. The ripple content in the output voltage is highly reduced in SLLC integrated SECS compared with Boost converter integrated SECS. In this work, the SECS designed to feed a DC motor (DCM) and hence, the DC-DC converter is allowed to operate in open loop control. The designed SECS is simulated using MATLAB / SIMULINK software. The simulation results like DC output voltage, ripple content, speed response of DCM and electromagnetic torque validates the choice of SLLC over Boost converter in SECS.
