High-information-content projection display based on reflective LC-on-silicon light valves

1998
A projection display has been developed based on reflective liquid-crystal light valves fabricated on a crystalline-silicon active-matrix array. The light valves utilize the 45° twisted-nematic LC mode. The optical system is based on dichroic-mirror color separation, three polarizing beam splitters, and a dichroic color-combining cube. The display has native SXGA or UXGA resolution with full multisync capability for other formats and provides >1000 ANSI lumens and >300:1 full-field contrast ratio.
