Interactive based Access Control Framework for Connected Vehicle Communication

2018
Threats of attack on Vehicle Communications pose the risk of serious and unexpected consequences. In response, this paper proposes a novel Software Defined Networking (SDN) based Global Access Control (SGAC) to accommodate Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle to Pedestrian (V2P) communication systems. SGAC is the first attribute-based access control framework for connected vehicle communication based on SDN. SGAC tackles the need in federated vehicular communication to make decisions based on very volatile dynamic information. This SGAC enforces strict rules and dynamic changes based on network activities to yield better consistency and provide information at different levels of abstractions to enable the smooth flow of traffic. In the proposed SGAC, incoming requests are analyzed prior to access decisions, being routed through either centralized or decentralized modes, which gives system administrators flexibility to select the proper choice. We validated the SGAC via a driving simulator in a V2P communication setting. The simulation results showed that the SGAC could effectively control the mean speed throughout the entire work zone area, induce earlier lane changing, and extend stopping distance for worker crossings.
