Design of tipping structure for 110 m high-precision radio telescope

Abstract Considering the stringent surface accuracy and pointing accuracy specifications of the 110 m radio telescope, the homologous deformation characteristics of the reflector is first studied, and key design points of the tipping structure are presented further. Then, a novel Reflector-Alidade Connecting Structure (RACS) scheme for large telescope is proposed based on these points. Finally, the new design scheme is applied to the numerical example of 110 m telescope, and the results verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the new scheme.
