Relearning the City and Public Space in the Greater Bay Area

2021
The main consideration of this chapter is the significance of public space in relation to the spaces of exception—factories, special economic zones, urban villages and natural reserves—in Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area, where they exemplify the succession of different processes of mass production and infrastructural expansion and urbanization. The second consideration of this chapter is design education, which parallels and complements the role of design practice in producing cities and public space. This chapter considers the ways of engaging in design-centered learning in order to discover ways of practicing that actively focus on producing public space.
