Historical Notice On HPM

2003
The 1970s saw the appearance of HPM as a research field. However, the importance had been attached to the history of mathematics in mathematics education by those important precursors such as the French mathematician O. Terquem and the English mathematician A. De Morgan in the 19th century. Early in the 20th century, many mathematicians in Europe and the United States, such as F. Cajori, H. Poincar, D. E. Smith, etc., advocated the use of mathematical history in teaching, laying the foundation of the establishment of a new research field.
