Cross Time Zone Power System Planning and Economic Competitiveness Comparison of Regulation Resources: A Case Study on China-Germany

2018
Cross time zone grid interconnection is the key part of global energy interconnection. Different time zones have certain complementarities in load demand and new energy power output. In power systems with high new energy power generation proportions, cross time zone grid interconnections are more important. The complementary features of cross time zone load demand and new energy power output are quantified in this paper, and the peak-shaving benefits brought by the cross time zone interconnections are calculated. A combined inter-country cross time zone power system planning between China and Germany is carried out on this basis, while the economic competitiveness of interconnected grid regulation, peak-shaving power supply, pumped storage and battery energy storage are compared.
