Ethical Dimensions of the GDPR

2018
Our digital society is changing rapidly, with emerging new technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, robotics, and the internet of things. These changes trigger new fundamental ethical questions relating to privacy and data protection. This paper explores the ethical dimensions of privacy and data protection and the extent to which the GDPR takes ethics into account in relation to these developments. It concludes with some observations on who should be in the lead on making ethical judgements (governments, data protection authorities (DPAs), ethical committees, or others) It will be included in a GDPR Commentary (probably in 2019).
