ETHNOBOTANICAL USES OF SELECTED TREE SPECIES IN POTISKUM LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF YOBE STATE, NIGERIA

The study was on the ethno botanical uses of selected Tree Species in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State. Questionnaire were, the total number of the respondents were 30 which is including only herbalist sellers. The time frame for taken the data and interview is two mouth from herbalist and users on management methods applied in conserving the plant parts which include Bark, Leaves, Roots, Flowers, Fruits, Epiphyte and Seed. Data collected were analysed using simple description statistics inform of tables, simple percent aged. The result revealed that male have highest with 70% while 30% were female. The age distribution indicates that 53.33% of the herbalist age ranging from 36 and above. The result on herbs directly from the forest recorded 63.33% and those purchased from the market were 36.37%. The result of various from herbalist diagnosed were Diarrhea, Abdominal pain, General body weakness, Evil spirit, Ulcer, Common cough and Anaemia carried 53.36%, while the Hepatitis, Irregular menstruation and Snake bite were 46.6%. On parts uses bark record highest 43.3% Leaves, Roots and Seeds 20% respectively. On the side effects 70% while no side effect were 30%. The of time frame and dosage 50% takes the medicine for three days. The result of consumption method revealed that those use single plant were 80%, while those combined more than one plant were 16.69%. Conclusively local people need to be trained, encouraged and supported on how to conserved, manage the medicinal plant species and whole plant resources found in their area, they should also be aware of preserving knowledge on medicinal plants. The study has further demonstrated that almost all part of trees are useful in one form or another curing one ailment or another.
