Ultrasonic tool vibrator for vibration-assisted ultra-precision cutting

2012
Ultrasonic vibration-assisted cutting is used in ultra-precision machining. This paper describes an ultrasonic tool vibrator based on a sandwiched piezoelectric transducer. Both acoustical methods and finite element analyses were used to design the sandwiched piezoelectric based vibrator. The vibrator has a vibration frequency of 42.0 kHz and an amplitude of 8 μm.This provides good vibration-assisted ultra-precision cutting of die steels, giving a surface roughness of Ra 0.018-0.05 μm.
