Conflictos ambientales: nuevas miradas y desafíos para su abordaje

Environmental conflicts are a common denominator in the region and they are in the process of growth. This is due to the exponential use of natives assets in an expansive and extractive development model. In direct proportion to the implementation of this model, social and cultural movements organize and multiply different actions to face the “inconsulto” advance sometimes indifferent to the local needs and identities, sometimes secretly because of the fear of social reactions. In all cases, the lack of capacity to manage structural and episodic socio-environmental conflict, manifests bluntly and at very high costs for the governability. Conflict transformation and environmental justice approaches come to contribute in the looks that we have on the complexes conflicts and also in the possible approaches to channel them in a constructive way. They also give us light on the role they different stakeholders can play to achieve that goal. This framework of thought and work is being traveled by different actors of the multipart dialogue in the region, and international organizations already promote initiatives to make it possible..
