The Characteristic Behaviour of Boron Lime Glass Powder in Development of New Era of Fly Ash Bricks

2016
Fly ash is one of the major residues generated during combustion of coal in thermal power plants. Fly ash brick technology is the process of converting industrial waste materials into quality building material. Glass wastes become the greater threat to environment and also to the developing countries. GGBFS is an alternative replacement for cement in construction industry. Fly ash, Lime, Gypsum and Crusher dust are used to manufacture the fly ash brick. In this study One type of Boron glass powder (BGP) is used as a replacement material for fly ash (BGFA) and another type of Boron glass powder (BGP) replaced fly ash with constant 20% of GGBFS waste in the proportion of 2.5%,5%,7.5%, 10%,12.5%,15%,17.5%,20%,22.5%,27.5%,30% (BGGSFA) Hence, Two types of fly ash bricks with each type containing 12 different mixes were batched and casted. The prepared bricks are cured for 7days, 14 days and 21days cured and dried in regular temperature. The Compressive strength, Water absorption, Bulk density, hardness, efflorescence, initial rate of absorption and sorptivity of the brick are experimented as per IS code. The tests results shows the compressive strength of 20% of Boron Glass Powder in BGFAB and BGGSFA bricks of revealed 6.723N/mm2, 6.312N/mm2 provokes the excellent performance in compare to the Indian Standards. The water absorption of 20% replacement of Boron Glass Powder in BGFAB, BGGSFA bricks provokes 3.0% and 0.8% increase of ordinary fly ash bricks. The bulk density of 20% replacement of Boron Glass powder in BGFAB and BGGSFA bricks decreased in weight on comparing Controlled fly ash bricks. The hardness and efflorescence shows only 10% slight appearance of white deposits over the BGFAB and BGGSFA bricks. The study was aimed to reduce the waste glass dumping in the earth to protect the environment from hazardous and also increment of low cost brick towards the construction industry for the sustainable development.
