Studies of dynamic fracture in functionally graded materials using peridynamic modeling with composite weighted bond

2019
Abstract In this paper, based on peridynamics (PD) modeling with composite weighted bonds, the crack propagation of functionally graded materials (FGMs) subjected to dynamic loads under a triangular micro-modulus function were studied. Both single crack and double cracks propagation in FGM plate under tensile load were studied. Furthermore, the influence of material gradient forms, crack position and length on crack propagation behavior was discussed. The results show that the position of the crack significantly affect the crack propagation, while the effect of the material gradient form on the crack propagation in FGMs is limit. In addition, the influence of the initial single crack length on the crack growth path was also studied. It was found that the change of the initial single crack length did not affect the final growth path of the crack.
