HISTORY OF THE FIRST DOUBLE-SHELL HIGH-LEVEL NUCLEAR WASTE TANK AT THE HANFORD SITE

2019
Approximately 55 million gallons of radioactive and chemically hazardous waste are stored at the Hanford site in underground single-shell and double-shell tanks constructed of carbon steel. In 2012, the primary liner of one of the double-shell tanks, AY-102, began leaking. This paper summarizes the results of investigations into the cause and contributing factors for the failure.
