A dynamic speed guidance model based on cooperative vehicle infrastructure system

2016
At present, due to the lack of speed guidance, most of the vehicles have to wait for green time at the downstream of intersections, which increases the delay of vehicles. In order to solve this problem, this pager presents a new dynamic speed guidance model based on the Cooperative Vehicle Infrastructure System (CVIS), which can collect more real-time traffic data by vehicle to Infrastructure communication (V2I), such as the positions of vehicles, acceleration rates, speeds, et al. This model is designed using the technology of second-order multi-agents navigator formation control. To prove the effect of the model of CVIS, a test is done under two different VISSIM simulation environment, namely with and without the speed guidence model of CVIS. Test results show that the speed guidence model of CVIS can guarantee less delay time and less stops under three different traffic states. As a result, the model improves the overall efficiency of the intersection, and eases the phenomenon of vehicles queuing. The speed guidance model will be a useful application of CVIS in practice.
