Media Access Control Protocol for Optical Metro Ring

Since optical ring is the main topology in metro ring, it is of great significance to study the MAC (media access control) protocol, which is discussed in this paper. Firstly, the current protocols are classified, then performance objectives and technology attributes are analyzed thoroughly. Finally, several topics remaining to be investigated is presented.
