Bidirectional Current-Fed Converter for High Gain DC–DC and DC–AC Applications

Our country is witnessing rapid growth in AC and DC transmission. There is a growing demand for the converters, which can play a dual role of conversion from DC voltage level to another DC voltage level and DC voltage to AC voltage. The proposed investigation focuses on the converter or inverter system, which can be connected to both DC and AC loads. The proposed converter has a ratio of output to the input voltage to achieve voltage of either polarity. This converter is a high gain boost converter operating at a duty ratio of around 0.5 for maximum gain, unlike traditional boost converter, which operates at a duty ratio of approximately 1 for maximum gains but cannot achieve high gains because of non-idealities present. This paper discusses the converter in detail, along with the design of the capacitor and inductor. The essential simulation results of DC and AC loads are analyzed, validated, and presented. Further simulation work and hardware development are in progress.
