PIXE analysis to study metal diffusion and sedimentation phenomena in Venice Lagoon

A chemical procedure to prepare thin targets from water samples for PIXE measurements has been perfected, in order to analyze trace metals in interstitial waters and solutions from chemically leached sediment samples. Calibration measurements have been performed and reference material tested. The trace metal recovery of the procedure has been evaluated. Application of the method in Venice Lagoon system study is currently underway.
