THE SAME GENE POOL IS SHARED BY TWO DISTINCT MORPHS OF THE FRESHWATER SNAIL MELANOPSIS FROM THE SEA OF GALILEE

2013
ABSTRACT As a contribution to the taxonomy of the polymorphic snail Melanopsis in the Sea of Galilee, Israel, an electrophoretic survey based on 14 enzymes (15 putative loci) was carried out on about 900 snails, belonging to 2 distinct morphs (banded and unhanded), sampled at 17 locations from around the lake. Hedrick's (1971) measure of genotypic identity was used to calculate the genetic distances among the groups. According to a UPGMA phenogram, all groups belong to the same gene pool, with the shortest distances characterizing morphs collected at the same location.
